Romance. Just what is romance? I think it is like beauty...in the eyes of the beholder. Isn't a lot of romance in our heads? I mean who doesn't enjoy receiving an expensive gift? But if the intention behind the gift is not real or about love and romance does the gift lose some glitter? In my book, the answer is a resounding yes!
I have received very special gifts from a man I did not love. He wanted my admiration but it wasn't going to happen. The more he tried with romantic gift ideas, the more he pushed me away. He wasn't the guy for me and so, although the romantic gift ideas were nice, the romance was simply lacking. The sincerity of his gift giving was not evident for me.
Now, my husband can get me the most practical of romantic gift ideas and all I see is love. His intention is pure and thusly can turn a simple gift into the most romantic and thoughtful thing I have ever received! He thinks he is poor in the romantic gift ideas department. I have tried to make him see that it is not really the gift so much as the love behind it. His effort is an aphrodisiac in itself as well as his modesty. He truly pleases me in every way. Now, isn't that romantic?
I agree with the sentiment of this note. The romantic intentions of one side is not necessarily shared by the reciever. When there is romance from both sides, even the most practical gift is elevated in the eyes of the receiver. Romantic gifts are truely a blessing.
